Determination of Iron in Zinc Alloys (Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry)

1 Method Overview

The sample is digested with hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid solution. In dilute hydrochloric acid medium, the absorbance of iron is measured by air‑acetylene flame at the wavelength of 248.3 nm using an atomic absorption spectrometer.

2 Scope of Application

This method is applicable for the determination of iron in zinc alloys.

3 Reference Standard

GB/T 12689.5‑2004 Chemical analysis methods for zinc and zinc alloys — Determination of iron content — Sulfosalicylic acid spectrophotometry and flame atomic absorption spectrometry, Method 2: Flame atomic absorption spectrometry
