Determination of Exchangeable Magnesium Content in Soil

Preface

Exchangeable magnesium in soil refers to magnesium ions adsorbed on the surface of soil colloids, which serves as an available magnesium nutrient source directly absorbable by plants. It plays a vital role in chlorophyll synthesis, photosynthesis and activation of various enzymes. Its content directly affects crop growth and final yield. Accordingly, accurate determination of soil exchangeable magnesium is of great significance for guiding rational magnesium fertilization, preventing magnesium deficiency in crops and improving the quality of agricultural products. In accordance with NY/T 1121.13-2006 Soil Testing—Part 13: Determination of Exchangeable Calcium and Magnesium in Soil, this experiment adopts Model A500 Zeeman atomic absorption spectrometer featured with superior background correction capability and excellent stability to complete method verification for exchangeable magnesium detection in soil.
